Acupressure is a comfortable, safe and inexpensive alternative health technique used to enhance, re-balance and re-distribute energy throughout the body and brain to help bring about healthful changes and harmony in our body, mind and spirit. This natural health therapy, which is done with clothes on, is as relevant in today’s modern North American society as it was in Asian society so many years ago.
Along the same principles as Acupuncture, Acupressure uses specific pressure points to advance, enhance or break up stagnant energy in any area of the body. The organs are linked not only by the various body systems, veins, arteries and cells, but also by energetic pathways leading from one organ to the other and persisting through all areas of the body. These energy pathways are also called Energy Meridians and along these meridians are hundreds of electro-magnetic tubular points that conduct energy from one point of our body to the next, kind of like electrical circuits in a power grid.
Unlike Acupuncture which uses fine needles to access the meridians deep in the body, Acupressure uses only finger pressure on the skin and is seldom uncomfortable. Using a combination of points, usually holding a distal point such as on the wrist or the foot, with a local point such as over your liver or stomach, energy can be quickly released and blockages in those areas can easily be overcome.
Acupressure is used in a wide variety of situations, ranging anywhere from headaches, to digestive issues, to circulation and heart health, to depression, lack of energy, building a stronger immune system, or as simply as releasing pain in the neck and shoulders.
It is a natural form of therapy that doesn’t require any medications, supplements or other expenses. Each session uses a selected pattern according to the wishes or concerns of the client, and energetic testing can be done as well in order to detect what areas are out of balance. It’s a fantastic way to practice preventative health before chronic conditions get out of hand, or to simply re-balance your body and connect with all three: mind, body and soul.
